Multiscale modelling and 150 years of Gist
From 18-22 November 2019, the second version of the Multiscale Computational Methods in Bioprocesses took place. During the course the participants learned about modelling from industrial scale to molecular scale and back, using different approaches and software.
There was an opportunity to visit the pop-up museum around 150 year yeast in Delft, displaying the life of Jacques van Marken, founder of the ‘Gist- en Spiritus-Fabrieken’ (now integrated in DSM) which will be open until 15th of December 2019. We found out yeast comes from the Indo-European word yes, which means bubble or foam. We saw the long history biotechnology has in our society and the growing role it has in solving the sustainability challenges.
